Freddie Blay Backs Bonzoh For Ellembelle

The National Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie W. Blay, has given his support to Kwasi Bonzoh, aka Bonzoh K, to capture the parliamentary seat for the Ellembelle Constituency in the December general election.

Mr. Blay, who is former Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency, is convinced that Bonzoh K has what it takes to defeat the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah.

“I’m convinced Kwasi Bonzoh will beat Armah Kofi Buah in the general election and I’m fully behind him and will support him to win the seat,” the NPP stalwart said.

“I will urge everybody in the Ellembelle Constituency, particularly members of my party, to do same,” he stressed.

“I want them to do away with the petty differences they may have with Bonzoh, who is also the district chief executive (DCE) for the area, and give him the maximum support,” he requested.

There was a rumour in the constituency, with some NDC activists running with it that the national chairman of the NPP was against the candidacy of Bonzoh K and would not support his bid to become the MP for the area.

According to the NDC, Mr. Blay preferred Bonzoh, his former special aide, to remain as DCE and would not support him to become MP.

However, the NPP national chairman dismissed the rumour in an interview with Takoradi-based Empire FM and stated that Mr. Bonzoh was capable of winning the Ellembelle seat in December.

“People will agree with me that Bonzoh has put up a very good show in handling the district. He’s been so good with the cooperation of some others.

“Bonzoh has even been nice with his opponent, Armah Buah, and worked with him, and so the NDC cannot turn round to say Bonzoh is not capable and I’ve also not said that,” Mr. Blay indicated.

According to the NPP chairman, the Ellembelle District has seen massive road and other infrastructural projects under the leadership of Bonzoh as DCE.

He mentioned the ongoing construction of the 26.5-kilometre Esiama-Nkroful-Teleku-Bokazo-Anyinase road, which he said was neglected by the NDC government at the time the MP (Armah Kofi Buah) was a minister for eight years.

He again referred to the ongoing rehabilitation of the 21-kilometre Asasetre-Gyampre junction feeder road, which was also neglected by the NDC government, even though the place serves as a major food basket for the district.

Other projects that received mention by the NPP chairman are the construction of a girls’ dormitory for Kikam Technical Institute, ultra-modern dining hall for Esiama Secondary Technical High School and $1 million infrastructural development at the Charlotte Dolphyne NVTI at Sanzule.
