Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) Mr Sulemana Braimah has told President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) cannot break the 8 year cycle when he keeps defending and praise singing his ministers who sign scandalous contracts.
Mr Akufo-Addo on Tuesday August 10 hilariously introduced the under fire health minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu as a vilified minister following the flak against the botched Sputnik V deal, at a function in Domfete in the Berekum West District of the Bono Region.
Mr Agyeman-Manu took a two-week leave following the barrage of criticism he suffered over the Sputnik V contract.
On Tuesday, 10th August 2021, President Akufo-Addo commissioned the $16 million Weddi Africa Tomato Processing Factory, a company operating under the 1-District-1-Factory initiative, at Domfete.
While addressing the chiefs and people of the area, he said in the local dialect that “…This is the minister of Health who is being vilified.”
Reacting to Mr Akufo-Addo’s posture in a tweet, Mr Braimah said “ You don’t break the 8 by fighting everyone apart from your praise-singers.
“You don’t break the 8 by allowing corruption to fester. You don’t break the 8 with just sweet speeches
“You don’t break the 8 by defending and praising ministers who sign scandalous contracts.”
A former Deputy Minister of Information Felix Kwahye Ofosu also expressed shock at the way and manner the President chose to react to the calls for Mr Agyeman-mnau to resign or be sacked over the botched Sputnik V contract.
“President Akufo-Addo believes the Health and Finance Ministers’ violation of multiple Ghanaian laws in the Sputnik V scandal is a laughing matter. Incredible,” he said in a Facebook post.
Regarding the quest to break the 8-year cycle, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said it is a political pursuit that requires all members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to gird their loins together, build a strong Party and deliver competently on the mandate.
He said Mr Akufo-Addo’s passion and determination to hand over power to an NPP president in 2025 is absolute.
” Thankfully,” he said “we are led by a commander-in-chief, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and in fact he is the commander-in-chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, whose passion and determination to hand over power to an NPP president in 2025 is absolute.
“That is why we see the president working tirelessly to make sure we succeed as a government and Party,” De Bawumia said at a TESCON meeting in Cape Coast on Saturday August 7.
He added “We have implemented some bold policy initiatives and fixed quite a number of things that needed fixing. In fact, we have fixed many things in the country and we are fixing more. “
