Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor has dismissed reports on social media that the Achimota Forest reserve in Accra has been sold.
He said the natural resource is not for sale and will not be sold.
News circulated on social media on Tuesday May 17 that the government has sold the Achimota Forest.
Reports indicated that President Nana Addo Akufo-Addo granted Executive Approval for the Forest Reserve land, classified as a protected National Forest Reserve since 1930 to be redeveloped and sold for other purposes.
Vice President of Imani Africa who is also private legal practitioner, Kofi Bentil in a Facebook post said ” Bye Bye Achimota Forest. Sold! What is this??!”
But in a Facebook post reacting to these claims, Mr Jinapor who is lawmaker for Damongo said “Achimota Forest is not and will NOT be sold!!!!!!!”
