Ghana's men's 4x100m relay team withdraws from the World Athletics Championships

The Ghana Athletics Association has made the sad announcement that Ghana's 4x100 meters relay team will not be taking part in the World Championships in Budapest.

The decision was made after James Dadzie, who was part of the five-man relay team, suffered an injury while competing in the 200m heats of the 2023 Summer Olympics on August 23. Amoah was also injured in the same heat.

Joseph Paul Amoah, Isaac Botsio, James Dadzie, Raymond French, and Edwin Kwabla Gadayi were the five competitors who made up the Ghanaian relay team.

During the 80-meter mark, James Dadzie's participation was abruptly cut short due to a hamstring injury, which led to a grade II tear in his left hamstring's biceps femoris muscle.

After putting up a strong performance in the 200 meters, Joseph Paul Amoah suddenly felt a pop followed by a searing ache on the lateral front side of his right foot. His right big toe had a slight fracture, according to subsequent medical investigations.

James and Joseph's health and rehabilitation continue to be the key concerns due to the value placed on athletes' health by both World Athletics and the Ghana Athletics Association.

The GAA has determined that withdrawing from the 4x100 meter heats set for Friday, August 25, 2023 is in the best interest of James and Joseph's long-term careers after consulting with the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif. This choice is intended to speed up their access to medical care and free them up to concentrate on their road to recovery.

The Ghana Athletics Association thanked all parties involved for their support in a statement and urged them to unite in support of the athletes by sending prayers and well wishes for a speedy and full recovery.
