NIA to resume the registration and issuance of Ghana Cards to Ghanaians August 28

Ghanaians who are first-time applicants and are at least 15 years old will once again be eligible for free registration and issuance of Ghana Cards, according to the National Identification Authority (NIA).

Eight of the sixteen regions will resume the practice.

As a result of the NIA receiving 484,000 blank cards from its technical partners, the exercise must resume.

"The Ministry of Finance initiative has resulted in NIA receiving 484,000 blank cards from its technical partners, Identity Management Systems II Ltd (IMS II) and CalBank PLC, making it possible to resume this registration procedure. By virtue of this event, eligible Ghanaians who have not yet applied for the Ghana Card are now able to do so, according to a statement from the NIA.

The NIA also decided to implement two phases to carry out a smooth registration process.

Phase one would consist of a 10-day restricted registration period open only to Public Sector Employees on the Government of Ghana (GoG) Payroll.

This brief exercise will begin on Monday, August 28, 2023, and conclude on Friday, September 8, 2023.

For all Ghanaians aged 15 and over who have not yet applied for the Ghana Card, the second phase will start on Monday, September 11, 2023. Under Phase Two, Ghanaians may, in compliance with the legislation, update their names or dates of birth at any of the 286 Operational Offices of the NIA located around the country that are providing free registration.

For homes with five or more individuals who seek to obtain the Ghana Card in order to bring the NIA team home to be registered for a cost, a special mobile service has also been introduced.

With the help of these services, households with five or more Ghanaians and organizations with fifty or more Ghanaians can pay for registration services to be provided at a particular residence or location. Whereas institutional registration costs GH100.00 per applicant plus logistics fees, household registration costs GH150.00 per applicant.
