NASPA is urging the government to reinstate the salary of NSS personnel

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is being urged by the Ghana National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) to pay the arrears owed to its members.

The Secretariat owes its staff two months' worth of allowances, which is making things difficult for them.

The institution recently upped the recipients' allowances from GHS559 to GHS713 to assist them in coping with the financial difficulties they are experiencing.

Yet, it has not yet paid the two months' worth of allowances to NSS employees throughout Ghana.

Oppong Siaw, the group's president, claimed that NSS employees are disproportionately affected by the backlog in allowance payments.

He pointed out that despite the Executive Director of the NSS having pledged to pay the staff a few weeks prior, they had still not done so, which was negatively affecting them because the majority of them needed to borrow money to carry out their daily tasks.

When Osei Assibey, the executive director, attended a gathering on August 18, some of the service staff asked him when the arrears would be paid. He made it plain that we should have been expecting the arrears to be paid last week and that permission had been granted for them to be distributed to our various e-zwich accounts.

"But, as of right present, the employees are still unpaid. The staff members are famished and worn out since they believe their efforts have been in vain. The majority of them are merely borrowing money for food and transportation, he claimed.
