British Council, NYA, and NSS sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for youth development



The British Council Ghana has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two state institutions, the National Service Secretariat (NSS) and the National Youth Authority (NYA), in a collaborative partnership aimed at empowering Ghanaian youth by providing them with skills and opportunities for socio-economic development.


Implementation

The partnership seeks to implement policies and programs that will facilitate youth employment and development, as well as empower the youth in the acquisition of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

 

Importance

The Country Director of the Council, Nii Dodoo Dodoo, emphasized the importance of tapping into the skills and capacities of the growing youthful population, which presents opportunities for socio-economic development of the country.


NSS and NYA

The NSS has shifted its focus from just deploying service personnel to institutions to empowering them with professional skills and competencies for the job market. The Executive Director of the NSS, Mr Osei Assibey Antwi, explained that it had become necessary to equip young people with skills and training to enable them to gain meaningful employment or be self-employed for national development.


The CEO of the NYA, Mr Pius Enam Hadzide, stressed that empowering young people was not just a goal but a responsibility, duty, and investment in a brighter and more prosperous future. The Authority has worked tirelessly to provide education, skills development, and opportunities for young people through pragmatic intervention programs that address facets of their development.


Empowerment of Young People

The partnership between the British Council Ghana, NSS, and NYA is a step towards providing Ghanaian youth with the necessary skills and opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of their country. The Council is also exploring ways of involving the youth in climate change activities, which will further enhance their skills and capacities for national development.
