President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo of Ghana recently hosted a dinner and mini-concert for the national football team, the Black Stars, in anticipation of the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. The event, which took place on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, served as a gesture of support and encouragement for the team as they prepare for the tournament.
The private dinner, attended by the 27 players comprising the final squad for the competition, provided an opportunity for the head of state to engage with the team before their departure to Ivory Coast. Also in attendance were Mustapha Ussif, the Youth and Sports Minister, and Kurt Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
During the gathering, President Nana Akufo-Addo took the opportunity to motivate and inspire the players, expressing his confidence in their abilities and urging them to strive for victory in bringing home Ghana's fifth Africa Cup of Nations trophy.
Adding to the evening's entertainment was a special performance by renowned Ghanaian musician, Stonebwoy, who treated the players and technical team to a display of Afropop, dancehall, and reggae music.
A notable moment during the dinner was when team captain Andre Ayew presented a jersey signed by all the players to the President of Ghana, symbolizing their unity and determination as they represent their nation on the football field.
As the tournament approaches, Ghana finds itself placed in Group B alongside Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique. The team is set to commence their campaign with a match against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, at 20:00 GMT.
The support and encouragement extended to the Black Stars by President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo and other dignitaries reflect the nation's unwavering backing of its football team as they embark on their quest for glory in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
