‘The state of our nation is hopeless’ – Ato Forson on SONA

In a recent address to the 8th Parliament, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader in Parliament, expressed his dissent with President Akufo-Addo's portrayal of the current state of the nation. Dr. Forson emphasized that despite the optimistic picture painted by the President, the reality is quite different, with many Ghanaians feeling disheartened.

Dr. Forson highlighted the emigration of both ordinary citizens and professionals in search of better opportunities abroad, citing this as evidence of the prevailing sense of hopelessness in the country. He further underscored the impact of the depreciating value of the cedi against the dollar, noting its adverse effects on the cost of living and conducting business in Ghana.

Contrary to President Akufo-Addo's assertion that the economic challenges are temporary, Dr. Forson pointed out that the exchange rate of the cedi to the dollar has significantly worsened compared to previous years. He also emphasized the need for collective responsibility, stating that both the President and Vice President must work together to address the challenges facing the nation.

In conclusion, Dr. Forson urged Vice President Bawumia to support President Akufo-Addo in order to ensure their joint success. He emphasized that the President cannot be expected to bear the burden of failure alone, asserting that both leaders would be accountable for any shortcomings. This critical stance taken by Dr. Forson reflects a deep concern for the well-being of the nation and a call for collaborative efforts to address its pressing issues.
