Don’t be deceived by government’s last-minute projects – Prof. Opoku-Agyemang

In a recent address to market women at the New Takoradi Market, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), cautioned the electorate against being swayed by what she described as hastily executed government projects cropping up across the country in the lead-up to the elections.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang pointed out that the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government has developed a pattern of launching projects during election seasons with the intention of influencing voters, only to abandon these initiatives once the elections are over. She emphasized that such tactics should not deceive or manipulate the electorate.

Specifically addressing the situation in Takoradi, she highlighted the stalled progress of the New Takoradi Market redevelopment project, which was initiated in 2020 but has shown little advancement since then. Additionally, she drew attention to the unproductive excavation activities in the Takoradi township that have become synonymous with the current government's approach to development.

Drawing a sharp contrast, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang underscored the NDC's track record of delivering on development projects, citing examples such as the efficient completion of the Kejetia market and the Kotokoraba market within a reasonable timeframe. She expressed disappointment at the lack of progress in the Takoradi market despite the passage of four years since its inception.

Furthermore, she lamented the abandonment of the railway project initiated by the previous administration in Takoradi, emphasizing the NDC's commitment to fostering development in the Western Region and urging voters in Takoradi to reconsider their voting preferences.

Looking ahead, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang outlined the NDC's vision for job creation through initiatives such as the 24-Hour Economy, the Big Push, and the National Apprenticeship program under a prospective Mahama administration. She urged electorates to consider these proposals and cast their votes in favor of the NDC in the upcoming December 7 general elections.

In conclusion, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang's address resonated with a call for informed and discerning decision-making among voters, emphasizing the importance of scrutinizing government initiatives and considering a track record of sustained development when exercising their electoral rights.
