Hybrid pitch is the solution to Ghana’s stadia problems – Pitch Expert to Sports Ministry

In light of the recent challenges faced by the quality of pitches at the Accra and Baba Yara Stadia, there has been growing concern among football enthusiasts and stakeholders. The withdrawal of approval for category three games by CAF due to concerns with the pitch quality at the venues has prompted a call for urgent action to address this issue.

Sports Infrastructure Expert and CEO of Blaze Investments, Alhaji Salifu Sinkare has offered valuable insight into the matter. He has recommended the installation of FIFA-approved hybrid pitches at the Accra and Kumasi sports stadiums as a long-term solution to the persisting problem of poor pitch quality. This recommendation comes at a crucial time when Ghana is in need of suitable venues for international games following the ban on the Baba Yara Sports Stadium by CAF.

Alhaji Salifu Sinkare emphasized the advantages of hybrid pitches, stating that they offer a more viable and sustainable alternative to natural grass or astroturf. He highlighted that while the initial cost of installing a hybrid pitch may be around 1 million dollars, the long-term benefits far outweigh the investment. Not only are hybrid pitches easier to maintain, but they also provide a playing surface that is favored by professional footballers who are accustomed to similar pitches in Europe and other parts of the world.

The current predicament faced by Ghanaian football, particularly with regards to the state of the pitches at national stadiums, underscores the urgent need for proactive measures. The poor maintenance culture that has led to the deterioration of these facilities has drawn criticism towards the Sports Ministry, NSA, and government. It is evident that a sustainable solution is imperative to uphold Ghana's reputation as a host for international football events.

In light of these developments, it is essential for the Sports Ministry and relevant authorities to consider the expert advice put forth by Alhaji Salifu Sinkare. The installation of hybrid pitches not only addresses the immediate need for suitable playing surfaces but also aligns with global standards for sports infrastructure.

As Ghana endeavors to swiftly resolve the venue issue for upcoming international games, it is crucial to prioritize a lasting solution that will elevate the quality of sports facilities in the country. The adoption of hybrid pitches stands as a progressive step towards ensuring that Ghanaian football can thrive on pitches that meet international standards and provide an optimal playing environment for athletes and spectators alike.
