We regret to inform the public that Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Amenfi Central Constituency, has been officially disqualified from participating in the 2024 parliamentary elections by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
This decision comes as a result of an Order for Interlocutory Injunction issued by the High Court in Sekondi on May 31, 2024, in the case of Gyedu Frimpong & 4 Others vs. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the NDC, and the Electoral Commission. The court order explicitly restrains Joana Gyan Cudjoe from holding herself out as the duly elected NDC parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central until the final determination of the matter.
Furthermore, both the NDC and the Electoral Commission are prohibited from recognizing or affording her any rights or privileges as the candidate in question.
In a letter dated October 10, 2024, Deputy Chairman of Operations, Samuel Tettey, communicated Gyan Cudjoe's disqualification, emphasizing that the Commission is bound by the court order, which has neither been stayed nor vacated.
This development has significant implications for the upcoming parliamentary elections in the Amenfi Central Constituency and underscores the importance of adhering to legal processes and decisions. We will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as they become available.
