Election 2024: EC never promised provisional voter register in a week - Samuel Tettey

The Electoral Commission (EC) has recently addressed reports claiming that it had committed to releasing a revised version of the 2024 voter register within a week following the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held on Tuesday, October 1.

In a statement dated October 8 and signed by its Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, the EC refuted allegations made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the election management body's pledge to provide the revised register after meeting with all political parties participating in the December 7 polls.

Following last Tuesday’s IPAC meeting, the NDC announced its decision to accept the EC’s purported promise to release the corrected/updated version of the 2024 Provisional Voters Register for scrutiny within one week. However, the EC clarified that its chairperson, Jean Mensa, had actually stated that it “would provide the Political Parties with the revised PVR and upload it online within two (2) weeks or earlier. Nowhere in her statement did the Chairperson indicate that the revised PVR would be made available within a week.”

It is important to note that the EC has taken a firm stance in response to the NDC’s claims, emphasizing the accuracy of the Chairperson’s statements during the televised IPAC meeting.

The EC’s commitment to upholding transparency and accuracy in the electoral process is evident in its efforts to provide political parties with the revised Provisional Voters Register within the agreed timeframe. This commitment serves to ensure that all stakeholders have sufficient opportunity to scrutinize and verify the register ahead of the upcoming elections.

As the electoral process unfolds, it is crucial for all parties involved to maintain clear communication and adherence to agreed timelines. The EC’s dedication to fulfilling its responsibilities in a transparent and accountable manner is essential in upholding the integrity of the electoral system.

In conclusion, it is imperative for all parties to accurately represent the commitments made during official meetings and for stakeholders to work collaboratively towards a fair and credible electoral process. The EC’s adherence to the agreed timeline for providing the revised Provisional Voters Register demonstrates its commitment to facilitating a transparent electoral process.
