We are deeply saddened to report a tragic incident that occurred on the Accra-Tema Motorway in the early hours of Tuesday, November 19, 2024. The driver of a Sprinter bus with registration number GT 4867-13, identified as 42-year-old Isaac Atsu Hanu, has tragically lost his life in an accident.
The bus, which was en route from Tema Adjei Kojo Underbridge to Lapaz, was carrying several passengers at the time of the incident. Reports indicate that the driver lost control of the vehicle while attempting to avoid potholes on the road. This resulted in the bus crossing the median into oncoming traffic, ultimately veering off the road and crashing into a nearby bush.
While the driver succumbed to the accident, several passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries. One passenger, Louis Djamgma, recounted the harrowing experience of the driver losing control and the subsequent crash.
Remarkably, the driver's mate, Godwin Sarbah, survived the accident and has attested that there were no mechanical issues with the vehicle, and the driver was not speeding at the time of the incident.
Following the tragic event, personnel from the National Ambulance Service promptly responded to the scene and transported the deceased driver's body to the mortuary.
Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and loved ones of Isaac Atsu Hanu, as well as with the passengers who were injured in this distressing event. We urge all road users to exercise caution and vigilance while traveling, particularly during this time of heightened road safety awareness.
