Ghana Football Association Announces One-Week Break for general elections

In a significant announcement, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has declared a one-week hiatus for all its competitions in December 2024. This decision, outlined in an official statement on Wednesday, November 27, reflects the GFA's commitment to fostering civic engagement among its stakeholders during the upcoming national General Elections.

The elections, slated for December 7, 2024, prompted the GFA to temporarily suspend its football calendar to allow players, officials, and fans to actively participate in exercising their democratic rights.

According to the GFA's 2024/25 season schedule, the Ghana Premier League, Access Bank Division One League, Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, and all other competitions will come to a halt following the conclusion of this weekend's matches. This includes key fixtures such as the MTN FA Cup Round of 64 games and Matchday 6 of the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League.

Football activities are set to resume the following weekend, starting Friday, December 13, 2024. The GFA has assured stakeholders that the break is a temporary measure and that all competitions will resume as planned once the elections have concluded.

In its statement, the GFA emphasized that clubs and match officials were already informed of this scheduling adjustment in advance. Wednesday's announcement serves as a reminder to ensure all parties are adequately prepared for the pause in league fixtures.

The GFA's decision underscores the importance of civic participation and highlights its efforts to align football operations with national priorities. As the elections approach, the association has demonstrated its support for Ghanaian democracy while maintaining its commitment to delivering an organized and efficient football season.

Fans and participants are encouraged to stay updated on any further announcements from the GFA regarding upcoming fixtures and events.
