Government equips 16 Public Employment Centres with pickup vehicles

We are pleased to announce the recent allocation of resources by the Government of Ghana to support the establishment and operation of Public Employment Centres (PECs) across the country. As part of the Ghana Jobs and Skills Project, the Ministry of Employment, Labour Relations and Pensions has taken significant steps to enhance job opportunities and skills training nationwide.

The provision of Toyota Hilux pickup vehicles to each of the 16 newly inaugurated PECs is a demonstration of the government's commitment to facilitating staff movement and outreach to communities. Additionally, a 32-seater Toyota coaster minibus has been allocated to the Ministry to facilitate staff mobility during important events such as durbars, workshops, and conferences.

These PECs, strategically located in all 16 regions, are set to host the Ghana Labour Market Information System (GLMIS), which will play a pivotal role in addressing skill mismatches, reducing unemployment, and contributing to national economic transformation by developing critical skills.

During a handover ceremony, Ignatius Bafour Awuah, the Minister of Employment, Labour Relations and Pensions, presented the pickup vehicles to Mr. Dawuda Ibrahim Braimah, the Chief Labour Officer of the Department of Labour for distribution to the respective PECs. Furthermore, Mr. Kizito Ballans, the Chief Director of the Ministry, received the key to the 32-seater Toyota coaster minibus on behalf of the staff.

It is noteworthy that four PECs have already received their pickup vehicles, while the remaining 12 will soon benefit from this initiative. These vehicles are intended to support the crucial work of the PECs in connecting job seekers with potential employers and vice versa.

In addition to physical resources, the Ministry has also established a web-based portal (www.glmis.gov.gh) to ensure accessibility of employment services beyond the physical PECs. This initiative aligns with the government's vision to make employment services easily accessible to all individuals seeking employment opportunities.

Moreover, this recent allocation of vehicles is not the sole intervention by the Government to support the Labour Department. Previously, 86 motorbikes were provided to facilitate the movement of inspectors at various district levels, further underscoring the government's dedication to enhancing the operations of the Labour Department.

In conclusion, we express our gratitude to the Minister and the Government for their unwavering support in advancing employment, labour relations, and pensions in Ghana. We are confident that these initiatives will significantly contribute to the realization of a more robust and inclusive labour market.
