Ghanaian Religious Leaders Present Nine-Point Plan for National Development to President-Elect Mahama

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, Chairman of the National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches (NACCC), presented a comprehensive nine-point proposal for national development to President-elect John Dramani Mahama.  


The proposal, delivered at the President-elect's office in Cantonments, Accra, represents a significant collaborative effort between the religious community and the incoming administration.  The delegation included prominent religious leaders from various denominations, underscoring the broad-based support for this initiative.

 


The nine-point plan addresses critical areas for Ghana's future, encompassing economic development, social cohesion, and environmental protection.  Key proposals include:

 

1. Poverty and Unemployment Reduction: Collaborative strategies involving public and private sector partnerships to create employment opportunities and alleviate poverty.

2. Healthcare Enhancement:  Improved healthcare delivery and infrastructure development to ensure access to quality healthcare for all citizens.

3. National Peace and Social Cohesion:  Initiatives to promote unity and understanding among diverse communities and address social divisions.

4. Support for Mission Schools:  Strengthening the role of mission schools in providing quality education and expanding access to educational opportunities.

5. Tax Incentives for Corporate Social Responsibility:  Encouraging corporate investment in social development through tax incentives for businesses engaging in socially responsible initiatives.

6. Community Spaces for Churches:  Allocating dedicated spaces for religious activities and community engagement to foster stronger community bonds.

7. National Day of Prayer:  Establishing a national day dedicated to prayer and spiritual reflection to promote national unity and spiritual renewal.

8. Operation Recover All Loot (ORL):  Active participation in the 120-day social contract initiative focused on combating corruption and recovering misappropriated state funds.

9. Combating Illegal Mining ("Galamsey") and Environmental Degradation:  Addressing the environmental challenges posed by illegal mining and implementing sustainable environmental practices.

 

Archbishop Duncan-Williams, also the Presiding Archbishop and General Overseer of Action Chapel International, expressed confidence in President-elect Mahama's vision for national renewal and inclusive governance.  He highlighted the Church's long-standing contribution to education, healthcare, and social welfare, emphasizing the Church's role as a vital partner in national development.  The delegation extended heartfelt congratulations to President-elect Mahama on his recent electoral victory.

 

President-elect Mahama expressed sincere gratitude for the proposal and the ongoing support from religious leaders. He acknowledged the challenges facing Ghana, including economic hardship, disillusionment among the youth, and security concerns, stating that the nation is in need of a reset.  He emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration in addressing these challenges and restoring Ghana's national pride. 


 He welcomed the Church's continued partnership in education and healthcare, pledging to strengthen collaborations to improve the management of church-run institutions.  The meeting signifies a strong commitment to collaborative governance and a shared vision for a brighter future for Ghana.
