Mahama Announces Joint Transitional Team with Akufo-Addo

Accra, Ghana – President-elect John Mahama has announced the formation of a joint transitional team with outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo, scheduled to be inaugurated on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. 


This announcement followed the Electoral Commission's declaration of Mahama's victory on Monday evening.

 


In his first address to the nation, Mahama revealed a phone conversation with President Akufo-Addo where they discussed the transition process and agreed to the early inauguration of the joint team.  Mahama stated, “I have also just received a call from His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo. He graciously extended his congratulations to me, and we had the opportunity to discuss matters related to the joint transition team. We have agreed on an early inauguration of the joint transition team as early as Wednesday, 11th December.”

 

The establishment of this joint team marks a significant step towards a smooth and peaceful transfer of power.  The team will play a crucial role in facilitating the handover of governmental responsibilities, ensuring the incoming administration is adequately prepared to assume its duties.

 

Mahama expressed his gratitude to President Akufo-Addo for his cooperation and reaffirmed his commitment to working collaboratively for the benefit of the Ghanaian people.  


He added, “I conveyed my sincerest regards to him and expressed my readiness for us to work together to ensure a smooth transition in the best interest of the Ghanaian people.”  This collaborative approach signals a commitment to national unity and stability during this critical period of transition. 


 The swift action taken by both leaders underscores their dedication to a seamless transfer of power, prioritizing the well-being and interests of the Ghanaian citizenry.
