Deadly Crash at Opoku Transport Intersection Claims Two Lives

Kumasi, Ghana – A tragic accident at the Opoku Transport intersection on the Tech-Oforikrom stretch of the Kumasi-Accra highway claimed the lives of two people early Tuesday morning.  The accident, which occurred around 4:30 am, involved a Ford Transit "trotro" minibus and an OA-branded commercial bus.

The driver and conductor (mate) of the trotro minibus died at the scene.  Eyewitness accounts suggest that the trotro driver was speeding while navigating a curve at the intersection, resulting in a collision with the side of the OA bus.

The malfunctioning traffic lights at the intersection are believed to have been a contributing factor to the accident.  The lack of proper traffic control at this busy junction has long been a concern for residents and commuters.

The accident caused a temporary traffic jam on the already congested highway until emergency services arrived to clear the wreckage and manage the situation.  Investigations into the cause of the accident are underway.

The incident underscores the urgent need for improved road safety measures, including the repair of traffic lights and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, particularly at high-risk intersections like the Opoku Transport junction.

The loss of life serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of reckless driving and inadequate infrastructure.
