President Akufo-Addo left Ghana on Tuesday evening for neighbouring Cote d’Ivoire.
He is there to attend the funeral of the late Hamed Bakayoko who until his death was Prime Minister of that country.
The funeral is set to be held today, Wednesday, 17th March, in the capital Abidjan.
The President is there in his capacity as Chairman of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) Authority,
An eight-day period of national mourning for the late Prime Minister was announced by President Alassane Outtarra last Thursday, with the burial scheduled for Friday, 19th March.
President Akufo-Addo was accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway and officials of the Presidency and the Foreign Ministry.
He is expected back home in Ghana today, Wednesday, 17th February, 2021 together with the entourage.
Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has since been acting as President in his absence in accordance with the provisions of Article 60(8) of the Constitution.
