The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate in the Kumawu by-elections, Ernest Yaw Anim, has lashed out at his National Democratic Congress (NDC) counterpart, saying he needs not to complain about the bussing of voters to polling stations to vote.
He said the by-election is crucial to the future of Kumawu Constituency and so it is important he gets involved in order to get constituents in their numbers to vote.
Mr Yaw Anim has been moving from house-to-house, urging voters to go and vote in the ongoing by-elections.
But the NDC Candidate, Kwasi Amankwaa, is accusing his opposite number of vote buying and even escorting mentally deranged persons as well as oldies to vote, and in most cases vote for them in the booth.
“It is very pathetic that the NPP have to resort to buying votes and then sharing money and pretending for these people to come and tell the EC that they are disabled,” he told Media General’s Ibrahim Abubakar in an interview while visiting some voting centers Tuesday, May 23.
“So they escort them to come and vote for the NPP.”
In response, the NPP candidate said Kwasi Amankwaa is only shedding tantrums because of the impending defeat.
“Those are the tantrums of a losing candidate,” he told Ibrahim Abubakar.
“He can equally do same. He can go and get old people into taxis and buses and bring them to the polling station. Nobody stops him from doing that.
“We are trying to get everybody to be part of the process.”
NDC’s Kwasi Amankwaa has since reported the matter to the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) and law enforcement agency Ghana Police Service.
The by-election was occasioned by the death of Member of Parliament Philip Basoah on Monday, March 27.
He has been the MP since 2012.
