Spending can be efficient; tax increases are rejected– Minority

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the minority leader, has stated that his party will fight any attempts by the government to increase taxes during the mid-year budget review.

He claims that the NDC Lawmakers will make sure that the government cuts its spending rather than further impoverishing the already struggling Ghanaians.

He argued that there is a ton of room to slash spending.

"If you read the MEFP, the IMF is asking for more measures of roughly 1% of GDP, and I don't know where that is going to come from,"  "I won't be surprised if the government implements new measures."

"If I pay close attention, there is a huge area for budget reductions, but the administration is manifestly indisciplined, and they don't seem to care," the speaker said.

"They desire to live affluent lives at the expense of Ghanaians. Hence, they must reduce this type of spending, and if I were in control or responsible, I would choose a reduction in spending over a tax action or a rise in taxes, he stated in an interview with JoyNews.

The mid-year budget review for 2023 will be delivered to Parliament on July 25 by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

This will be the first time he is doing this after the government successfully signed onto an IMF deal.

Industry participants have already requested that the government utilize the occasion to abolish some tax handles.
