27 Immigration officers interdict over visa and recruitment fraud



27 officers, including three senior officers and 24 subordinate officers, have been disciplined by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) for their participation in various offenses that have damaged the Agency's reputation.


The notification of the interdictions was made in the Official Journal of the European Union, by a Circular signed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Office of the Comptroller General of Immigration (IGO), Mr. Kwame Adjei Takyi.


The officers in question are suspected of violating Regulation 138 (1)(a) and (k) of the Immigration Service Regulations, 2016, among other offenses, by engaging in recruiting and/or visa fraud (L.I. 2245).


According to internal disciplinary processes, the interdictions are intended to facilitate in-depth examinations into the situations. Following the investigations, individuals found responsible will face the appropriate legal repercussions.


The interdicted officers are Chief Superintendent Philipson Adeti, Superintendent Dominic Eshun, Assistant Superintendent of Immigration (ASI) Marvin Essandoh, Senior Inspectors (Snr. Insp.) Augustine Nuamah, Snr. Insp. Martin Owusu, Inspectors (Insp.) Stephen Kofi Acheampong, Patrick Asante, Benjamin Darko, Assistant Inspectors (Asst. Insp.) Victor Donkor


Assistant Immigration Control Officer I (AICO I), Cosmos Dakora; Assistant Immigration Control Officer I (AICO I); Ebenezer Azumah; Bright Buabeng; Collins Nyarko; AICO II; Solomon Koney Laryea; and AICO II Samuel Kuranchie are the remaining officials.


The GIS urged members of the public who may have been hurt by the alleged actions of these officers to come forward and provide information to help with the current investigations in a statement issued by C/Supt. Michael Amoako-Atta.
