Agogo South hospital workers threaten protest over Owusu-Danso reengagement

The Agogo South Hospital, commonly referred to as Agogo hospital, which serves as the Ashanti Regional Hospital in Kumasi, is experiencing heightened tensions following the re-establishment of the immediate former Chief Executive Officer of the Kumasi International Teaching Hospital (KAT).

Chief Executive Officer of Ghana's second leading health center, Dr. Owusu Danso, was appointed in 2017 by the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo, as Acting Chief Executive Officer. Subsequently, he was confirmed as the Chief Executive Officer for the Teaching Hospital, with four-year mandates to oversee the day-to-day operations of the facility.

The government again extended his contract for two more years, which concluded in 2022, after he had served the facility for a four-year term that coincided with his retirement age.

Following his retirement, the government appointed Prof. Dr. Dr. Ochere Addai Mensah, a former dean of students at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
