Bondholders of pensioners reject the new DDEP

The Pensioner Bondholders Forum has said that its members do not intend to participate in the government's new Domestic Debt Swap Program (DDEP).

Pensioners and other bondholders have been invited by the government to participate in the Programme, which will only accept bonds from ESLA Plc and Daakye Trust Plc.

This was stated in a letter the Ministry of Finance sent out on September 13 in which it urged domestic bondholders to actively and freely participate in the Plan.

The Convener of the Forum, Dr. Adu Anane Antwi, however, told reporters in Accra on September 18 that no pensioner was available to accept the government's offer.

He claimed they were aware the government would request an extension once the first program ended on February 13 (Monday).

He emphasizes that pensioners are not eligible for the recently announced deal and that they have been excluded.

The majority of his members, he claimed, are waiting for their bonds to mature on Monday.

Hence, Dr. Anane Antwi gave notice that if they aren't paid their dividends by Monday, they will protest.
