The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Western region of Ghana has expressed its commendation for the Ghana Police Service and the Electoral Commission of Ghana for their successful handling of the ongoing parliamentary primaries.
In a statement, a representative of the NPP praised the EC and the Ghana Police for their exceptional performance in ensuring the smooth conduct of the elections. He emphasized the crucial role played by these institutions in providing security and managing the electoral process.
The representative also highlighted the impressive voter turnout in certain constituencies, citing examples such as Shama and Kwesimintim where a significant number of people turned out to vote early.
While acknowledging the positive developments, he expressed hope that the security measures in place would be intensified during the counting process to ensure a successful conclusion to the elections.
The ongoing parliamentary primaries are particularly significant as they involve sitting Members of Parliament facing stiff competition in various constituencies. Notably, constituencies such as Bantama in the Ashanti region and Adansi Asokwa in the Central region are witnessing intense contests.
With a total of 326 aspirants cleared to contest in 100 constituencies across 15 regions, the NPP is actively engaged in the democratic process. It is worth noting that the party does not have a seat in the Oti region, and as such, there are no contests in that particular region.
Furthermore, the NPP has already elected candidates in areas where it does not currently hold parliamentary seats, indicating a comprehensive and inclusive approach to the selection of candidates.
As the parliamentary primaries continue, the NPP remains committed to upholding democratic principles and ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process. The party looks forward to the successful conclusion of the primaries and is poised to support its chosen candidates as they campaign for the upcoming general elections.
The NPP's commendation for the EC and the Ghana Police reflects a recognition of their dedication and professionalism in facilitating a credible electoral process. It also underscores the importance of collaboration between political parties, electoral management bodies, and security agencies in ensuring free, fair, and peaceful elections.
The NPP's engagement in the parliamentary primaries is a testament to its commitment to democratic governance and active participation in shaping the political landscape of Ghana. As the primaries unfold, all eyes are on the outcome, which will ultimately shape the composition of the next parliament.
