Dr Bawumia commissions Digital Repository facility for Wesley Girls High School

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia recently inaugurated a Digital Repository Centre at Wesley Girls Senior High School in Cape Coast as a tribute to his late mother, former student Hajia Mariama Bawumia. The facility, which was financed by the Vice President himself, is designed to facilitate the school's retrieval of both past and present records in a digital format.

In his address at the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the significance of the repository for an esteemed academic institution like Wesley Girls’ High School, with its extensive 187-year history. He highlighted the repository's potential to serve as a valuable resource for past and present students as well as staff, enabling them to easily access important school records.

The Vice President shared the personal motivation behind the initiative, recounting the touching gesture of his late mother’s 1960-year group classmates who visited to express their condolences. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the school through the provision of a digital repository in honor of his mother, whose passing in 2021 prompted the initiative.

Dr. Bawumia underscored the impact of the project, noting that all student records have now been digitized and can be readily accessed at the touch of a button. During the inauguration, he expressed his appreciation for the presence of three of his late mother’s classmates – Mrs. Nancy Thompson, Dr. Mrs. Cecelia Bentsi, and Dr. Mrs. Matilda Papoe.

Looking ahead, the Vice President expressed his hope that other educational institutions that have yet to establish a digital repository would soon follow suit in order to digitize their invaluable records.

The commissioning of the Digital Repository Centre at Wesley Girls Senior High School stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of Hajia Mariama Bawumia and signifies a significant step towards preserving and modernizing the school's historical records.
