We are deeply saddened by the passing of Alhaji Rashid Bawa, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria. He departed on Thursday, March 14 in Nigeria. His contributions and service to both Ghana and Nigeria will always be remembered.
In accordance with Islamic customs, his remains are scheduled to be transported to Kadjebi in the Oti Region on Friday, March 15 for burial.
Mr. Frank Adjei Worlanyo, Akan Constituency Communication Officer of the NPP, shared this information with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during an interview.
Alhaji Bawa, a Legal Practitioner, had been serving as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria since 2017 following the return of the NPP government to power.
It is worth noting that Alhaji Rashid Bawa was elected as the Akan Constituency’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for the 2024 General Election during the Parliamentary primary on December 2, 2023. He received 492 votes, surpassing his closest contender, Mr. Tassah Safiwu, who obtained 103 votes. Alhaji Tanko Yakubu, the third contender, garnered 17 votes.
Alhaji Bawa also served as the NPP PC in the 2020 polls and previously won the Akan seat as an Independent Candidate in the 2000 election. Additionally, he held the position of Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports from 2001-2004, and later served as Ghana’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 2005-2008.
