Interior Minister declares April 11 as holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr

We are pleased to announce that the Interior Ministry has declared Thursday, April 11, 2024, as a public holiday to commemorate Eid-ul-Fitr, a significant religious festival celebrated by Muslims worldwide.

This decision was confirmed in a press statement signed by the Interior Minister, Henry Quartey, on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. The statement emphasized the importance of observing the holiday throughout the country.

Eid-ul-Fitr holds great religious significance for Muslims around the world as it marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting (sawm). It is a time for spiritual reflection, devotion, and community.

The holiday signifies the conclusion of the 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan. It is a time for joyous celebration, communal prayers, and acts of charity.

It is important to note that the date for the start of any lunar Hijri month varies based on the observation of a new moon by local religious authorities. As a result, the exact day of celebration varies by locality.

As we approach this special holiday, let us take this opportunity to extend our warmest wishes to our Muslim brothers and sisters. May this Eid-ul-Fitr bring peace, happiness, and prosperity to all those celebrating.

We encourage everyone to join in the spirit of unity and inclusivity as we recognize and respect the diversity of our society. Let us embrace this occasion as a time to foster understanding and goodwill among all members of our community.

On behalf of the Interior Ministry, we wish everyone a blessed and joyous Eid-ul-Fitr.
