2025 AFCONQ: Ghana v Sudan game to be played at Cape Coast Stadium – Reports

In a recent development, the Black Stars of Ghana are set to play Sudan at the Cape Coast Stadium, as reported by local media outlets. This decision comes in the wake of the disqualification of the Baba Yara Stadium from hosting Category C matches due to its substandard playing surface.

Officials from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) conducted a visit to Ghana last weekend to assess the Accra and Cape Coast stadiums for potential approval. This inspection was initiated at the request of the Ministry of Sports, with the aim of averting the potential embarrassment of not having a suitable local venue for upcoming international matches.

Following the assessment, it has been confirmed that Ghana’s matchday three fixture in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Sudan’s Falcons will be held at the Cape Coast Stadium. The first leg is scheduled for Friday, October 11, with the return leg taking place at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya on Monday, October 14.

The Black Stars, vying for their fifth continental title, have encountered difficulties in the qualifiers, having suffered a 1-0 defeat to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium and securing a 1-1 draw against Niger in Berkane. With just one point from two matches, Ghana currently occupies the third position in Group F.

During a recent appearance at the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif and National Sports Authority (NSA) Board Chairman Seth Panwum provided assurances that the upcoming game against Sudan would indeed be played in Ghana.

As preparations intensify for the upcoming fixture, Ghanaian football enthusiasts eagerly anticipate a spirited performance from the Black Stars as they strive to secure a crucial victory in their quest for AFCON qualification.
