In what she termed her final press briefing before Ghana's December 7th, 2024, general elections, Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Adukwei Mensa delivered a powerful message to election officials: focus on fairness and accuracy, not on electing specific individuals.
Mensa emphasized the EC's core values of transparency, fairness, and integrity, urging officials to uphold these principles throughout the counting and reporting process. "Count the votes accurately and fill out the forms professionally," she instructed. "We urge you to do it with integrity and truth, and let God guide you."
She stressed that the EC's collective goal is not to install any particular president or member of parliament, but to conduct free and fair elections that genuinely reflect the will of the Ghanaian people. This includes ensuring that valid votes are not mistakenly categorized as rejected.
"We believe in you, and we trust in you to conduct free, fair, and transparent elections that will reflect the will of the people," Mensa stated, expressing her confidence in the commission's ability to execute its duties effectively.
The press briefing was attended by representatives from the Association of African Election Authorities and other observer groups, underscoring the international interest in Ghana's electoral process and the importance of ensuring its integrity.
The address serves as a clear and decisive callfor ethical conduct and accurate vote counting as Ghana prepares for its crucial general elections.
