The Office of the President has announced the termination of all board memberships for statutory boards, corporations, commissions, and councils, effective January 7, 2025, the day President John Dramani Mahama assumed office. This action aligns with the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845).
According to a press release issued by the Acting Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, all appointments made by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo or any former Minister of State to these bodies are now void. The statement clarifies that this directive does not apply to commissions established independently under the constitution.
The government emphasized that the reconstitution of these boards, commissions, councils, and statutory corporations will occur in due course, following the procedures outlined in their respective enabling legislation. In the interim, management of these bodies are instructed to obtain clearance from the Chief of Staff before making any significant decisions.
President Mahama expressed his gratitude to the outgoing board members for their service to the nation, wishing them success in their future endeavors. The administration's decision signals a clear break from the previous administration and sets the stage for a new era of leadership within these crucial governmental bodies.
The upcoming reconstitution process will be closely watched as it shapes the direction of various sectors under the Mahama presidency.
