Mahama Pledges Volta Region Inclusion in Government Appointments

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the Volta Region's fair representation in government appointments.  His pledge follows recent unrest in Ho, sparked by perceived exclusion of local talent from recent ministerial appointments.

During his "Thank You" tour visit to Ho, President Mahama addressed concerns raised by residents regarding the lack of representation from the Ho Central constituency in his recent cabinet appointments.  He acknowledged the disappointment and frustration felt by some, directly referencing the vandalism of the NDC office in Ho.  However, he stressed that his administration's approach to appointments would be guided by merit, competence, and regional balance.

"I recognize the anticipation of appointments from this region, and as has been said, so far so good," President Mahama stated, adding, "Let me assure you that your contributions and talents have not been overlooked."

The President emphasized that appointments would adhere to strict principles of meritocracy, competence, regional balance, gender equity, and the candidate's availability to serve.  He reiterated his dedication to the Volta Region, assuring residents that the region would not be marginalized in terms of appointments or developmental projects.

"I do not doubt that the people of the Volta Region possess the resources and will to play pivotal roles in shaping the future of our nation," he declared.  "The Volta Region has long been a victim of unfulfilled promises, but as I said, I assure you that this era of neglect will end under this administration."

President Mahama's assurances have been met with cautious optimism among Volta Region residents, who expressed hope for a renewed focus on addressing the region's long-standing developmental challenges and fostering a more inclusive governance structure.  The President's commitment to merit-based appointments while ensuring regional representation offers a path towards reconciliation and a renewed sense of hope for the future.
