Mahama Revokes Appointments of All MMDCEs

President John Dramani Mahama has announced the revocation of all appointments of Chief Executives of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), effective immediately.  The decision, announced in a statement signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, cites the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) as amended by the Local Governance (Amendment) Act, 2017 (Act 940).

The statement explains that the Coordinating Directors of the affected MMDAs will assume the role of acting Chief Executives until new appointments are made.  No further details regarding the reasoning behind the mass revocation or the timeline for new appointments were provided in the press release.

This sweeping change is expected to have significant implications for local governance across Ghana.  The impact on ongoing projects and initiatives within the various MMDAs remains to be seen.

Further updates will be provided as they become available. The political ramifications of this decision are also likely to be significant, sparking debate and analysis in the coming days and weeks.  Observers will be watching closely to see how the various political parties and stakeholders respond to this development.
