Ghana Police Service Launches Nationwide Crackdown on Illegal Mining ("Galamsey")

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has announced a nationwide operation to combat illegal mining, known locally as "galamsey," citing serious security threats and escalating violence.  The announcement, made at the Regional Command Conference at Police Headquarters on Friday, March 21, 2025, signals a significant escalation in the fight against this pervasive problem.
