Mahama Seeks Asantehene's Intervention in Bawku, Walewale Conflicts

President John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to meet with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Sunday, January 19, to discuss the escalating tensions in Bawku and Walewale.  The meeting follows a visit by the President to the Nayiri Palace, where he spoke with the King and Overlord of the Mamprugu Kingdom, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga II.

During his visit to the Nayiri Palace, President Mahama expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation in the Upper East and Northern regions. He attributed the ongoing violence to protracted chieftaincy disputes between rival ethnic factions, resulting in substantial loss of life and property.  The President highlighted the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to these conflicts.

Recognizing the Asantehene's significant experience in mediating and resolving conflicts, President Mahama emphasized the importance of leveraging Otumfuo Osei Tutu II's wisdom and leadership. The Asantehene has a long-standing reputation for his ability to bring warring parties together and facilitate peaceful resolutions.

President Mahama expressed confidence that the meeting with the Asantehene will be instrumental in paving the way for lasting peace and stability in the affected regions.  He believes the Asantehene's intervention could be crucial in de-escalating tensions and fostering dialogue between the conflicting factions.

The President's optimism underscores the gravity of the situation and the hope placed on the Asantehene's mediating role.  The upcoming meeting is anticipated with keen interest by many who hope for a swift and effective resolution to the violence.
