COCOBOD CEO Joseph Boahen Aidoo Resigns Amidst SOE Board Restructuring

Joseph Boahen Aidoo, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), has resigned from his position, effective January 7, 2025.  His resignation comes in response to a January 13, 2025 directive mandating the cessation of all board memberships within State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).

In a letter addressed to President John Dramani Mahama on January 16, Mr. Aidoo explained his decision, emphasizing the importance of facilitating a smooth transition for COCOBOD.  He noted that while his current term wasn't set to expire until July 2025, his early resignation would allow stakeholders and business partners to establish necessary connections with the incoming leadership in a timely manner.

Mr. Aidoo expressed his unwavering commitment to the cocoa sector and pledged his full support throughout the transition process.  He also extended his gratitude to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the opportunity to serve as COCOBOD's CEO for the past eight years.  His letter concluded with a formal statement of his resignation, effective January 7, 2025.

The resignation marks a significant development within Ghana's cocoa sector and underscores the broader restructuring taking place within the country's SOEs.  The impact of Mr. Aidoo's departure and the subsequent appointment of a new CEO will be observed closely as the industry navigates this period of transition.
