President Mahama offers support to Kantamanto traders affected by fire

President John Dramani Mahama has visited traders affected by the recent devastating fire at Kantamanto Market in Accra. The fire, which occurred on January 2nd, destroyed hundreds of shops and caused millions of Ghana cedis in damage, leaving many traders heartbroken and facing significant financial hardship.

During a meeting with the affected traders, President Mahama expressed his deep sympathy for their losses and assured them of his administration's unwavering support.  He acknowledged the scale of the tragedy and the profound impact it has had on their livelihoods.

Addressing concerns about the cause of the fire, President Mahama stated, "We can't rule out the possibility of arsonists being behind these fires," highlighting the government's commitment to investigating the incident thoroughly. He revealed that a meeting with security chiefs had already taken place to address the issue, with instructions given to enhance security around major markets to prevent future occurrences.

To prevent similar incidents, President Mahama announced several proactive measures:  The Ghana National Fire Service will establish fire stations near major markets, and the installation of security cameras will aid in identifying and apprehending those responsible for any arson attacks.

Furthermore, President Mahama pledged to collaborate with the traders to rebuild Kantamanto Market with improved design and safety features.  The government will also provide support to help the traders mitigate their losses and recover from this devastating event.

This comprehensive approach demonstrates the government's commitment to both immediate relief and long-term preventative measures to protect traders and their businesses.
