Pensioner bondholders have pitched camp at the Finance Ministry today picketing over the controversial Domestic Debt Exchange Program.
A former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo was captured among the group of retirees who are demanding a total exemption of their investments from the Domestic Debt Exchange programme.
The former CJ who was calmly seated at the precincts of the Ministry with other colleagues wielded a placard with the inscription “We use our Bond Yields to pay: Rents, Medical bills, Electricity bills, Water bill.”
This is the umpteenth time members of the Pensioner Bondholders Forum are picketing at the Finance Ministry over government’s debt exchange program.
Meanwhile, government’s three-day window for bondholders to complete tender processes as part of the controversial Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) expires today, February 10, 2023.
The deadline for signing up for the programme Tuesday, February 7, 2023, but government in a late-night press statement said some of the bondholders faced “technical glitches as they tried to complete the online tender process” hence the window to enable such persons to complete the process.
The latest window in response to the terms of Exchange as amended pursuant to the 2nd Amended and Restated Exchange Memorandum will close today by 4:00 p.m. (GMT) ” the Finance Ministry announced in a statement signed by sector minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
It’s however unclear whether government will consider a settlement date for the Invitation following the expiration of the deadline or give further extensions.
Over 50 percent of bondholders have subscribed so far, the Finance Ministry said earlier.
