Publicly declare withdrawal of proposed bill to merge VRA, ECG, NEDCO – VRA staff

In a recent development, the Senior Staff Association of Volta River Authority (VRA) has brought to light their concerns regarding the proposed bill to merge the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (ECG), Bui Power Authority, Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO), and the VRA into two separate entities. The association is urging the government to issue a public declaration on the withdrawal of this proposed bill.

The Senior Staff Association of VRA has been vocal in their opposition to the merger, citing potential adverse effects on both the VRA and the nation as a whole. Their stance is rooted in the belief that the proposed merger could have serious repercussions, and they are seeking reassurance from the government regarding the withdrawal of the bill.

A closed-door meeting between the Minister of State at the Ministry of Energy, Herbert Krapah, and the leadership of the Senior Staff Association of VRA was held to address these pressing concerns. Following the meeting, Theophilus Tetteh Ahia, Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of VRA, emphasized the importance of a public declaration confirming the withdrawal of the bill.

Mr. Ahia stated, "The Minister said he’s going to do the right thing. We’re expecting the minister, as early as possible today to issue that statement. So that we can also bring down our curtains and continue to work and continue to protect the VRA. The VRA is the premium institution, in the bloodline of this country, in terms of our economy, and national security and we can never allow anybody to dismember the VRA. Any attempts to dismember VRA will be resisted."

Furthermore, Mr. Ahia expressed the unwavering commitment of VRA staff and the citizens of Ghana to safeguarding the VRA's integrity and its vital role in providing reliable and affordable electricity to the nation.

It is evident that the Senior Staff Association of VRA is steadfast in their determination to preserve the VRA's standing and operational effectiveness. Their plea for a public declaration from the government underscores the significance of this matter and highlights the need for transparent communication and resolution.

As this situation continues to unfold, it is imperative for all stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue and collaborative efforts to address concerns and uphold the best interests of the VRA and the nation. The outcome of this deliberation will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications, and it is essential that all parties involved approach this matter with careful consideration and a commitment to finding a mutually beneficial resolution.
