Suhuyini and Lands Minister discuss Tamale government land sale.

The Tamale North Member of the National Assembly (MNAs) have had a disagreement with the Minister of Lands and Natural resources (MLC) Sam Abu Jinapor over the sale of a plot of land that houses the Timber Market within the Tamale metropolis by a private developer.

Traders who have lived on the land for a long time, according to Mr. Suhuyini, are being forced out of their jobs without receiving any kind of compensation from the government. He demanded that the Minister appear before Parliament to address the issue.

However, the claims made by Tamale North MP were refuted by Samuel Abu Jinapor, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources.

According to Abu Jinapor, the state leased the land as part of the rehabilitation plan of the Rawlings administration. The Damango MP promised that individuals who were impacted will receive compensation. He charged Tamale North with failing to appear in the House to put the questions.

The Tamale North MP, who is also the Deputy Ranking Member for the Lands and Forestry Committee, however, told the media that the Minister's response to his question was "arrogant".

The meeting of the Environment Committee was scheduled to begin at 9am. The meeting can be checked on the committee's website. However, at 10am, the Speaker was not present and there is no television in the Committee rooms to see if the Speaker has arrived.

At that meeting, Mr Suhuyini became involved with the EPA and lost track of time, which is why he was not present on the call. However, as a responsible MP, he was doing his duty as the people's representative as soon as 9am when he attended the Environment Committee meeting.

The Minister, according to Mr. Suhuyini, may engage in various forms of "propaganda" and "attempts to depict me in a poor light." Yet, the Tamale Lands Commission has never denied that Timber Market was sold, at least not in the reports that can be seen online.
