The NLC has postponed the meeting with the College of Education Teachers of Ghana (CEG) to August 16.
The postponement of the meeting was requested by CETAG to the NLC on the basis that its leaders were unavailable. The meeting was initially scheduled to take place on the 9th of August.
Since August 1, (CETAG) has been in a strike action due to the government's non-implementation of the terms of their collective bargaining agreement.
The Chief of Public Affairs of the National Labour Council (NLC) stated that the parties had indicated in their letter that they wished to meet with the NLC on August 15th, however, they were informed that the organisation does not sit on any days other than Wednesdays, and that they would be required to attend the hearing on August 16th. Furthermore, the NLC has requested the employers of the parties, the Ghana Technical and Vocational Education (GTEC) Commission (CTEC), and the Ministries of Labour, Employment, and Education to attend the hearing, as well as all relevant stakeholders.
"The Commission has ordered them to end the strike immediately in accordance with its authority under section 139 of the Labour Act. Any of these could have been caused by a communication breakdown between their employer and the association. Thus, we continue to anticipate their arrival.
CETAG has been on strike in order to get its members their unpaid allowances.
Last week, students at various colleges of education in the Ashanti and Greater Accra regions voiced worry that the current academic calendar would be impacted if the issues raised by the CETAG members who are currently on strike are not promptly addressed.
