An unfinished three-story structure collapses in Ofankor.

A three-story building under construction in Ofankor Market in Accra's Asofan district fell over the weekend.

Although it was unclear what caused the collapse, numerous reports pointed the finger at the Friday's torrential rainfall.

No one was trapped in the incomplete structure, according to the GNFS's public relations officer, Associate Divisional Officer Grade One (ADO1) Alex King Nartey.

He claimed that the GNFS was looking into the reason of the collapse but was unable to ascertain if the unfinished building was protected by a valid building permit or other documentation.

The real reason of the collapse has not yet been determined, but according to ADO1 Nartey, "I seriously doubt that the right building materials were employed or that safety precautions were followed.

Rain is what the tenants are blaming, but that shouldn't be the reason for an entire building to collapse.

According to the police at Ofankor received word from the police headquarters control room at 11:20 am that a storey building had collapsed at the poultry farm.

When the police arrived, they spoke with the facility's caretaker, who described how he woke up to find the unfinished building's pillars sinking before it finally fell.

The Ofankor police confirmed the occurrence when called, however they declined to speak with the Ghanaian Times and directed the journalist to the Police Regional Public Relations Officer or the Head of Public Relations Directorate at the National Headquarters in Accra for more information.
