Ghana Football Association Refutes Rumors of Sacking Black Stars Coach

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has recently addressed speculations regarding the potential dismissal of the Black Stars' coach, Chris Hughton, in the lead-up to the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 in Cote D’Ivoire. These rumors surfaced amidst concerns about the team's performance in recent matches.

Henry Asante Twum, the Director of Communication at the GFA, clarified the association's position during an interview on GHOne TV with Lantam Papanko. Twum emphasized that the GFA has no intention of terminating the contract of the senior national team's coach, particularly with the AFCON tournament only nine days away. He underscored the GFA's commitment to upholding the existing contract and providing full support to Hughton as he prepares for the upcoming tournament.

Twum stated, "Chris is under a contract. We respect the contract. We have thrown our weight behind him and all of us have decided to put our shoulders to the wheel in order to make him successful in Cote D’Ivoire." He further highlighted that Hughton has been provided with all necessary resources and operates within a supportive and respectful environment, backed by the leadership of the FA and its staff.

Addressing concerns raised by various sources, including social media, radio, and television, Mr. Asante affirmed the FA's unwavering confidence in the coach, attributing doubts to external opinions and speculations. Despite acknowledging the challenges faced by the coach, Asante emphasized that the GFA remains steadfast in its decision not to dismiss him.

"A manager of his caliber and experience, we have no doubt of his competence. Results have not been favorable in recent times, which he knows," added Mr. Asante.

The GFA's public statement serves to dispel any uncertainties surrounding Hughton's position and reaffirms its support for the coach as the national team prepares for the prestigious AFCON 2023. As the tournament approaches, all stakeholders will be closely watching as the Black Stars strive for success under Hughton's leadership.

The GFA's resolute stance underscores its commitment to providing a stable and supportive environment for the national team, signaling a unified effort to overcome recent challenges and achieve success in upcoming competitions.
