Ghana Air Force, Embraer, and SNC collaborate for stunning aircraft display



We had the privilege of witnessing a remarkable demonstration of the A-29 Super Tucano aircraft at the Air Force Base Accra on Monday, February 19, 2024. This highly anticipated event, organized by the Ghana Air Force in collaboration with Embraer Defence and Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC), showcased the aircraft's capabilities in close air support and aerial reconnaissance missions within low-threat environments.


Air Vice Marshal Frederick Asare Kwasi Bekoe, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), welcomed attendees and expressed his enthusiasm for the static and flight display. He emphasized the importance of acquiring light attack aircraft in response to the escalating terrorism threats in the sub-region. The partnership with SNC and Embraer was highlighted as timely, underscoring the A-29 Super Tucano's strategic role in enhancing the Ghana Air Force's deterrent and offensive capabilities.


During his keynote address, the Minister for Defence, Hon Dominic Nitiwul, emphasized the significance of prioritizing counter-terrorism efforts to address the evolving security landscape. He identified the A-29 Super Tucano aircraft as a suitable asset to bolster the Ghana Air Force's capabilities in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations.


Representatives from SNC and Embraer, Mr. Eric Hauff and Mr. Arnold Sobrero, expressed their delight in the collaborative opportunity, emphasizing its alignment with their objectives for future cooperation.


The event also included a prelude to the aerial display, allowing dignitaries to access the tarmac area for a static display and aircraft viewing. The audience was then treated to a captivating aerial performance featuring fly-pasts and impressive manoeuvring drills.



The A-29 Super Tucano demonstration not only showcased the aircraft's impressive capabilities but also underscored the commitment of the Ghana Air Force to enhance its operational readiness in response to evolving security challenges within the sub-region. This collaborative effort between the Ghana Air Force, Embraer Defence, and Sierra Nevada Corporation represents a significant step towards bolstering security and defense capabilities in the region.
