President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has emphasized the advantageous impact of the newly re-modelled Kumasi International Airport, now named Prempeh I International Airport, Kumasi, on the people of Ghana, particularly those in the Ashanti Region.

In his address, President Akufo-Addo highlighted that the airport will play a pivotal role as a significant gateway, bolstering economic relations, facilitating international trade and tourism, and fostering cultural exchanges.

The commissioning ceremony, which took place on Friday, 10th May 2024, was graced by the presence of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, and the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, His Excellency Keith Rowley. President Akufo-Addo underscored that this event underscored the government's unwavering commitment to enhancing infrastructure to meet the evolving needs of the populace and positioning Ghana as a beacon of progress and prosperity on the African continent.

In a post-ceremony statement on Facebook, the President remarked, "The commissioning of this airport coincides with the 25th anniversary celebration of the enstoolment of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as Asantehene. This convergence of events is not a coincidence but a fitting tribute to the rich cultural heritage and historic legacy of the Asante Kingdom."

Expressing his enthusiasm, President Akufo-Addo noted, "This airport will provide much-needed relief to numerous travelers and businesses in the Ashanti Region and beyond, who previously had to journey to Accra and the Kotoka International Airport for international flights."

Furthermore, he emphasized, "The airport will serve as a vital gateway, fostering stronger economic ties, supporting international trade and tourism, and promoting cultural exchanges."

Acknowledging the employment opportunities generated by the project, President Akufo-Addo urged the inhabitants of Kumasi to seize the potential for growth and development presented by the airport. He stated, "I am informed that this project generated a substantial number of jobs during the construction phase and will continue to create additional employment opportunities as it becomes operational. I therefore encourage all, particularly residents of Kumasi, to capitalize on the opportunities that this airport offers for personal and communal advancement."
