NDC calls for dismissal of NYA CEO Pius Hadzide over controversial World Cup pledge

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has recently called for the removal of Pius Enam Hadzide, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Youth Authority (NYA), citing concerns over his controversial promise to facilitate youth travel abroad.

Hadzide, who is also the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate for Asuogyaman, made headlines with his pledge to assist his constituents’ children in traveling to the 2026 World Cup in the United States if elected.

The NDC has expressed strong disapproval of this statement, pointing to Hadzide’s involvement in the 2017 Australian Visa scandal, where several Ghanaians misrepresented themselves as journalists to obtain visas for the Commonwealth Games.

While Hadzide was initially suspended and later cleared of any wrongdoing, the NDC maintains that his past actions render him unsuitable for public office.

During a rally in Asuogyaman, the NDC’s Deputy National Communication Officer, Malik Basintale, urged for Hadzide’s immediate dismissal and prosecution, alleging that he has been unduly influenced by party leaders. Basintale also called upon President Akufo-Addo to take prompt action in this matter.

"We are calling for the immediate dismissal of Pius Enam Hadzide as the CEO of the National Youth Authority. He has clearly admitted that he was guilty in the Australian Visa scandal," said Basintale.

The NDC's stance on this issue reflects a growing concern over ethical standards and accountability within public office. The call for transparency and integrity in governance is a fundamental aspect of a functioning democracy.

As this situation unfolds, it is essential for all parties involved to uphold the principles of due process and fair judgment. The decision regarding Pius Enam Hadzide's tenure as CEO of the National Youth Authority will undoubtedly have implications for the broader discourse on ethical conduct in public service.

It remains to be seen how this controversy will be addressed by the relevant authorities, and whether it will impact the upcoming parliamentary elections. The NDC's demand for accountability sets a precedent for the expectations placed on public officials and serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding ethical standards in governance.
