Police officer dead, another injured in high-speed chase

We are deeply saddened to report a tragic incident that occurred in Kpandai, Northern Region, on the evening of Sunday, October 20. The unfortunate event resulted in the loss of one police officer's life and left another officer seriously injured.

According to an eyewitness  the officers from the Formed Police Unit (FPU) were stationed at a checkpoint when a sudden rain shower prompted them to seek shelter at a nearby filling station. It was during this time that they noticed two individuals on a motorbike. Upon attempting to stop the individuals, they failed to comply with the officers' instructions.

Subsequently, the officers made the decision to pursue the individuals on a motorbike. Tragically, during the pursuit, a collision occurred with a pedestrian, causing the officer riding at the back to be thrown off the bike and sustain fatal head injuries. Despite being rushed to Kpandai Hospital, the officer succumbed to his injuries upon arrival. The officer who was driving the motorbike sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Kpandai District Hospital.

The individuals being pursued also encountered an accident, resulting in one of them sustaining injuries and receiving medical care, while the other has been apprehended and is currently in police custody.

This devastating incident serves as a reminder of the risks and challenges faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty. Our thoughts and condolences are with the families and colleagues of the officers involved in this tragic event.

We hope for a full and speedy recovery for the injured officer and extend our deepest sympathies to all those affected by this heartbreaking loss.
