Electoral Commission Confident of Smooth Election, Assures No Material Shortages

The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured the public that the upcoming December 7, 2024 elections will be smoothly conducted, with no anticipated shortages of materials or equipment.

Addressing the media in what she described as her final pre-election engagement, EC Chairperson Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa stated that all necessary materials and equipment have been adequately distributed to all regions across the country.  "We don’t anticipate any shortage in any part of the country," she confidently declared.

This assurance comes as 18,774,159 registered voters, representing 55% of the total population, prepare to participate in the election.  Mrs. Mensa highlighted the success of the special voting exercise, noting a high voter turnout with the lowest participation rate reaching an impressive 83%.

The EC's commitment to transparency and media access is evident in the accreditation of nearly 10,000 media personnel.  These individuals will have access to polling stations, constituency, and regional collation centers, enabling comprehensive election coverage.  Mrs. Mensa urged journalists to uphold journalistic ethics, emphasizing the importance of accurate and truthful reporting.  "Rise to the task and cover elections accurately and truthfully," she implored.

Further demonstrating its commitment to a fair and transparent process, the EC has also accredited over 20,000 local and international observers.

These observers have been provided with detailed maps to facilitate their navigation and monitoring of polling centers.  The comprehensive preparation and proactive measures undertaken by the EC suggest a well-organized and transparent election process.
