A 68-year-old Ghanaian woman has tragically passed away while on a pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It is not clear what caused her death, but according to sources, she was suffering from a medical condition that worsened during her stay. The deceased is believed to have come from Kumasi, an Ashanti Region town.

According to reports, Zulfawu was traveling on a visiting visa, a visa not allowed by the Saudi authorities for Hajj. This is a type of visa used by government-registered Hajj pilgrims to visit the Ghana camp during the Hajj season. Earlier this year, the GH Hajj Board issued a warning to would-be Hajj pilgrims not to use visiting visas to perform Hajj in Saudi Arabia, as they will be arrested and turned over to authorities. Three of these persons were arrested over the weekend.

Reports indicate that Zulfawu traveled to Mecca during the Umrah season, intending to perform Hajj alongside those officially allowed to do so. However, according to sources, during her stay, she suffered from a medical condition which worsened and eventually caused her death.

GH Consulate officials have been informed of the situation and are working to have her body buried.
